What need have I for love,
When emptiness is faithful?
Why choose to be a foolish dove,
When crows are wise and fateful?
What good is there in passion,
When reason offers peace?
Why live beneath its dark oppression,
When freedom brings release?
What thrill remains in vice,
When triumph comes from will?
Why heed desire's sly advice,
When decadence can kill?
So let the doves keep dreaming,
While crows convene at twilight;
I'll follow where they're scheming,
And join them drinking starlight.
